San Antonio did not grow beyond its original Spanish charter land until 1940, and as it spread its center of population moved steadily north. In 1941 the City bought 1,200 acres north of its limits for an airport, and Oak Park-Northwood lies inside Loop 410 just south of it. Between it and downtown sits Alamo Heights, which voted in 1922 to become a city of its own with its own school system, with Olmos Park and Terrell Hills beside it; the City annexed Terrell Hills without an election in 1945, and a court voided the annexation. Out on the northwest side, the South Texas Medical Center is 900 acres of medical facilities anchored by the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and its teaching hospital, and the City's Medical Center plan area, 6,188 acres around it, was adopted by the City Council in 2019. Stone Oak, established in 1985, lies north of Loop 1604 and west of U.S. 281. 3 guides are listed below.

The school district changes up here. Most of the Medical Center is in Northside ISD, the district the arithmetic on this site's calculators is built on, but Stone Oak is in North East ISD, at 0.9822 per $100 in 2025, and Oak Park-Northwood is split between North East ISD and Alamo Heights ISD, at 0.9572. The edge of the city no longer moves by force: Senate Bill 6, signed in August 2017, requires a city in a county of 500,000 or more people that wants to annex an area of 200 or more residents to win an election there, and a petition from more than half the landowners where the voters do not own more than half the land. And the north floods fast. On 17 October 1998, 11.26 inches of rain fell at the airport, the most recorded on any calendar day in San Antonio, and on 12 June 2025 at least fifteen cars were swept off Loop 410 where Beitel Creek, which runs beside the road, flooded, in a storm that killed 13 people in the city. Most homeowners policies do not cover a flood, so the flood map for the exact address, and a flood policy priced on it, belong in the offer.
