Live in Woodlands
A 1976 community against Fish Creek Provincial Park, where the Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club sits entirely inside its own boundary.
Woodlands was established in 1976: 2.8 km², 5,830 residents in 2,340 occupied dwellings at the 2021 census, with 28 per cent of households renting. Fish Creek Provincial Park forms the entire southern boundary, Anderson Road runs along the northern edge, and 24 Street SW marks the western one. The Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club, despite its name, sits entirely inside Woodlands rather than inside its more famous neighbour, and has hosted a PGA Tour Champions event since 2013. This is the quietest and highest-income of the four communities on this strip, and the one built latest.
A 1976 community built against Fish Creek, quieter than its neighbours
Bounded by Anderson Road SW to the north, 14 Street SW to the east, Fish Creek Provincial Park to the south, and 24 Street SW to the west. Ward 13.
Woodlands was established in 1976: 2.8 km², 5,830 residents in 2,340 occupied dwellings at the 2021 census, with 28% of households renting. It is the latest-built, quietest and highest-income of the four communities in this Macleod Trail belt, and the only one with an entire boundary on Fish Creek Provincial Park.
The name that isn't quite right. The Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club sits entirely inside Woodlands' own boundary despite carrying the neighbouring community's name. It has hosted the Shaw Charity Classic, a 54-hole PGA Tour Champions event now called the Rogers Charity Classic, since 2013. The club publishes no page this guide could open, so its founding year and membership terms are not stated here.
The demographics read differently from the other three communities on this strip: 72% of households own, and 21% of residents are 65 or over against 13% citywide, a population skewed toward long-tenured owners rather than turnover. William Roper Hull School, run as a partnership between the CBE and Hull Services for students with behavioural, emotional, social and mental health challenges, sits inside the community but is not a catchment school.
What it costs. Median household income was $95,000 in 2020, close to the city's own $98,000. Fifty-four per cent of the occupied housing dates from 1961 to 1980 and 29% from the 1980s, so Woodlands trades density and transit access for quiet and ownership.

- The furthest of the four communities from downtown, at roughly twenty minutes by car
- The golf club inside Woodlands' own boundary carries a neighbouring community's name. A genuine source of local confusion
- William Roper Hull School is a partnership programme with Hull Services, not a catchment option
- Only one CTrain station, Anderson, and it sits at the community's edge rather than inside it
- 72% of households own, which means thinner rental supply than the other communities on this strip
How Woodlands got here
- 1976Woodlands is established, bordered by Fish Creek Provincial Park to the south.
- 2013The Shaw Charity Classic, a 54-hole PGA Tour Champions event now called the Rogers Charity Classic, is played for the first time at the Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club, on Woodlands' own ground.
- 2019The City's last civic census counts 6,002 residents in 2,411 dwellings, 2,340 of them occupied and 1,666 owner-occupied.
- 2021The federal census counts 5,830 residents in 2,340 occupied dwellings, 72 per cent of households owning, with a median household income of $95,000 in 2020 against $98,000 across Calgary.
- 2020sFifty-four per cent of the occupied housing dates from 1961 to 1980 and 29 per cent from the 1980s, so change here comes as renovation rather than new lots.

The second-largest urban park in Canada, on the doorstep
Fish Creek Provincial Park, 13.48 km² and more than 100 km of paved and unpaved trails, runs the entire length of Woodlands' southern boundary. The Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club sits just north of the park, entirely inside Woodlands despite its name.
What the map does not show: having the whole southern edge on Fish Creek is the single biggest reason to choose Woodlands over its neighbours, and it is available to every block, not just the ones closest to the boundary.

Method: distances and drive times are estimated from the centre of the community to each destination using Calgary's road grid, and are rounded to honest ranges rather than presented as precise figures. Woodlands sits furthest south of the four communities here, so its downtown and airport figures are the largest on this strip.
Every gym within reach
The Southland pool and its two arenas, all at 2000 Southland Dr. S.W., are the closest large public facility. The golf club inside the community publishes no page this guide could open.
- The Southland pool shares 2000 Southland Dr. S.W. with the Ed Whalen and Joe Kryzcka arenas
- Trico Centre, at 11150 Bonaventure Dr SE, adds a beach-entrance wave pool and 90-odd drop-in classes a week
- Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club sits entirely inside Woodlands, but publishes nothing this guide could read
- Fish Creek Provincial Park pathways are the free option, along the community's own southern edge
| Facility | What it is | Drive |
|---|---|---|
| Southland Leisure Centre open | The City's Southland pool at 2000 Southland Dr. S.W., with the Ed Whalen and Joe Kryzcka arenas at the same address. | 6–9 min |
| Trico Centre for Family Wellness open | Recreation centre at 11150 Bonaventure Dr SE: beach-entrance wave pool and hot tub, arena, fitness centre and over 90 drop-in classes a week. | 9–13 min |
| Fish Creek Provincial Park pathways open | Free option: more than 100 km of paved and unpaved trails along the community's own southern edge. | 2–4 min |
| Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club closed | The course inside Woodlands' own boundary. Its site could not be opened, so this guide cannot say what membership costs or covers. | 3–4 min |
Fish Creek is the real fitness facility here. The trail network is long enough to make the paid options optional.
One catchment school, one program school, and designation for the rest
Woodlands School is the Calgary Board of Education school inside the community. William Roper Hull also sits inside Woodlands, run as a partnership with Hull Services for students with behavioural, emotional, social and mental health challenges rather than as a catchment school. Henry Wise Wood, at 910 75 Ave S.W. with 1,862 students, lists Woodlands among the sixteen communities it serves.
| School | Board | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Woodlands School | Calgary Board of Education | Inside the community, naming kindergarten and grade 6 among its classes. Wikipedia calls it Woodlands Elementary School. Neither prints a full grade range. |
| William Roper Hull School | Calgary Board of Education | Operated as a partnership between the CBE and Hull Services, for students with behavioural, emotional, social and mental health challenges, with specialized programmes in academic, vocational and daily living skills. Wikipedia calls it K to 12. It is not a catchment school. |
| Henry Wise Wood High School | Calgary Board of Education | Grades 10 to 12 at 910 75 Ave S.W., enrolment 1,862 in 2025-26. Its Wikipedia article lists Woodlands among the communities it serves. |
| Designations | Both boards | The CBE publishes no attendance areas: a family searches by address on its find-a-school page, so the Woodman junior high designation this guide used to print is unconfirmed. The Catholic district's site refuses automated clients. |
Alberta funds Catholic education the same way it funds public education, so there is no tuition for a resident student at either board. Search your own address on the board's find-a-school page before you buy: the CBE publishes no attendance areas, so this guide confirms no junior high designation, and the Catholic district's site refuses automated clients.
