Live in Canyon Meadows
A 1965 community on Fish Creek Provincial Park's northern edge, with its own CTrain station since 2001.
Canyon Meadows was established in 1965 against what would become Fish Creek Provincial Park: 3.1 km², 7,435 residents in 3,085 private households at the 2021 census, with 21% of households renting. 74% of the occupied stock was built between 1961 and 1980 and almost none of it since 2001. Canyon Meadows station has anchored the eastern edge since 2001, the golf course sits just northwest of the community rather than inside it, and Southcentre Mall is a short drive across Macleod Trail.
A station community on the park's edge
Bounded by Anderson Road to the north, Macleod Trail to the east, Fish Creek Provincial Park and Canyon Meadows Drive to the south, and 14 Street SW to the west. Ward 13, in the City's South sector.
Canyon Meadows was established in 1965 against what would become Fish Creek Provincial Park: 3.1 km², 7,435 residents in 3,085 private households at the 2021 census, with 21% of households renting. The count is down from 7,949 in 2015.
Its own CTrain station opened on 9 October 2001 at 416 Cantrell Drive SW on the eastern edge, 12.6 km south of City Hall, with 260 park and ride stalls. The golf course sits northwest of the community rather than inside it, which is how Wikipedia places it. Fish Creek Provincial Park, established on 10 June 1975 and the second largest urban park in Canada at 13.48 km², runs the entire southern boundary.
The stock is of one era: 74% of occupied dwellings were built between 1961 and 1980, 61% are single-detached and 22% are row houses. Southcentre Mall across Macleod Trail, about 190 stores since 1974, covers most errands without a downtown trip.

- 74% of the occupied stock was built between 1961 and 1980: aluminum wiring and the era's full list
- Station-adjacent blocks carry train noise and cut-through traffic
- Macleod Trail congestion peaks hard at rush hour
- Park-backing lots trade at a premium: the rest is a short walk away, not an address
- Almost nothing here has been built since 2001, so a renovated house is the only new interior on offer
How Canyon Meadows got here
- 1965Canyon Meadows is established on the edge of what would become the provincial park.
- 1974Southcentre Mall opens in October at 100 Anderson Road SE, across Macleod Trail. It now runs to about 190 stores and services.
- 1975Fish Creek Provincial Park is established on June 10 along the southern boundary: 13.48 km², the second largest urban park in Canada.
- 2001Canyon Meadows station opens on October 9 at 416 Cantrell Drive SW, on the Red Line's South extension, 12.6 km south of City Hall.
- 2021The census counts 7,435 residents in 3,085 private households. 74% of the occupied stock dates from 1961 to 1980, and the population is down from 7,949 in 2015.

The park as the southern boundary
The community's southern boundary is the park. Fish Creek Provincial Park was established on 10 June 1975, covers 13.48 km² and runs 19 km east to west with the city on three sides. More than 100 km of paved and unpaved trails start at that edge.
What the map does not show: deer and coyotes move through the creek valley into the surrounding streets, especially at dawn and dusk: small pets stay in at night.

Method: distances and drive times are estimated from the centre of the community to each destination using Calgary's road grid, and are rounded to honest ranges rather than presented as precise figures. The station and the mall compress the errand numbers; the park does the rest.
Every gym within reach
The Aquatic & Fitness Centre is the city facility, the golf course sits northwest of the community, and the mall district carries the commercial clubs. Confirm hours and access rules before you count on anything.
- The golf course is northwest of the community. Its own site did not answer when this guide was audited, so nothing is stated here about membership
- Fish Creek's more than 100 km of trails are the free option
- Commercial clubs cluster around Southcentre Mall, but this guide confirmed none of them against a publisher
- The community's own pool is the anchor: dive tank, hot tub and steam room alongside the lane pool
| Facility | What it is | Drive |
|---|---|---|
| Canyon Meadows Aquatic & Fitness Centre open | City-run pool, dive tank, hot tub, steam room, weights and cardio, and a fitness studio at 89 Canova Rd. S.W. | 3–5 min |
| Fish Creek Provincial Park pathways open | Free option: more than 100 km of paved and unpaved trails, starting at the southern boundary. | 2–3 min |
| Southcentre Mall district clubs open | Commercial clubs around the mall. This guide confirmed none of them against a publisher. | 3–5 min |
| Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club closed | The golf course northwest of the community. Its site did not answer, so this guide states nothing about membership or facilities. | 4–6 min |
The park does the daily work. The paid options are for pools, ice and weights.
Two schools inside, and a Spanish thread running through the rest
Canyon Meadows School runs a Spanish bilingual programme inside the community, and Wikipedia places St. Catherine, Catholic, here too. Nearby, Robert Warren School is the board's International Spanish Academy, K to 9, rather than the plain junior high this guide once called it. Dr. E.P. Scarlett carries the senior years with one of the board's largest AP programmes and a comprehensive French immersion stream.
| School | Board | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Canyon Meadows School | Calgary Board of Education | CBE school inside the community with a Spanish bilingual programme. Its site publishes no grade range and no attendance area. |
| St. Catherine School | Calgary Catholic | The Catholic elementary Wikipedia places inside the community. The district's site refuses automated clients, so nothing here was read from it. |
| Robert Warren School | Calgary Board of Education | The International Spanish Academy: a K to 9 Spanish bilingual school, not the plain junior high this guide used to call it. |
| Dr. E.P. Scarlett High School | Calgary Board of Education | High school with one of the board's largest and most established AP programmes and a comprehensive French immersion stream. |
Alberta funds Catholic education the same way it funds public education, so there is no tuition for a resident student at either board. Confirm the designation for a specific address before you buy: none of the board pages read for this guide publishes an attendance area, and the Calgary Catholic School District's site refuses automated clients.
