Live in Skyview Ranch
A far-northeast community built out since 2011, bisected by Country Hills Boulevard and minutes from Stoney Trail, CrossIron Mills and the airport.
Skyview Ranch's community association was registered on August 23, 2011, and the growth since has been fast even by Calgary's standards: 1,805 residents at the 2011 civic census, 2,990 a year later, 11,707 by the last civic census in 2019 and 12,870 at the 2021 federal census. The City's boundary polygon gives 2.29 km², so the density is unlike anything else in this batch: 47% of the occupied dwellings are apartments in buildings under five storeys, and 38% of households rent. The Federation of Calgary Communities bounds it by Stoney Trail, 68 Street NE, Country Hills Boulevard and Métis Trail NE; Wikipedia bounds it by Métis Trail, Redstone, 60 Street NE and Cityscape, with Country Hills Boulevard running through the middle.
Built out since 2011, and still catching up to its own growth
The Federation of Calgary Communities gives Stoney Trail north, 68 Street NE east, Country Hills Boulevard south and Métis Trail NE west. Wikipedia gives Métis Trail west, Redstone north, 60 Street NE east and Cityscape south, with Country Hills Boulevard bisecting the community. Ward 5.
Skyview Ranch's community association was registered on August 23, 2011, but the civic census had already counted 1,805 residents that year: this was a community filling in fast before the paperwork caught up. A year later the count was 2,990, a 65.7% increase. By the last civic census in 2019 it was 11,707, and the 2021 federal census recorded 12,870 residents in 4,295 private households.
It sits at the top edge of the city, and the two publishers who describe it disagree about where it ends. The Federation of Calgary Communities gives Stoney Trail, 68 Street NE, Country Hills Boulevard and Métis Trail NE. Wikipedia gives Métis Trail, Redstone, 60 Street NE and Cityscape, with Country Hills Boulevard running through the middle rather than along the southern edge.
This is not a suburb of detached houses. On the City's boundary polygon the community is 2.29 km², and 47% of its occupied dwellings are apartments in buildings under five storeys against 16% citywide. Only 37% are single-detached. 38% of households rent, 56% of residents are immigrants, and 30% of households spend 30% or more of their income on shelter, against 23% across Calgary.
What the publishers do not carry. Prairie Sky School has a Calgary Board of Education page that gives no grade range, no address and no opening year, and this audit found no publisher at all for the Catholic school in the community, for a proposed recreation hub, or for the Genesis Centre's facilities. Where a figure is missing here, it is missing because nobody publishes it.
- 82% of occupied dwellings were built after 2010, and 47% of them are apartments under five storeys. This is a dense community, not a detached-house suburb
- One board school inside the community, and its own page publishes neither a grade range nor an attendance area
- Almost no mature tree cover yet. Shade and windbreak are years away
- Airport flight paths are a real consideration this close to YYC
- Village Square Leisure Centre is closed for upgrades from August 31, 2026 until the end of 2027
- Getting west to the mountains means crossing the entire city. Budget close to two hours to Kananaskis
How Skyview Ranch got here
- 2011The Skyview Ranch Community Association is registered as a provincial society on August 23; the civic census counts 1,805 residents.
- 2012The civic census counts 2,990 residents in 1,306 dwellings, a 65.7% increase on 2011.
- 2019The last civic census the City ran counts 11,707 residents in 4,175 dwellings, 3,787 of them occupied.
- 2021The federal census records 12,870 residents in 4,295 private households, with renters at 38%.

Community pathways first, civic parks a short drive south
Skyview Ranch has no river valley or provincial park at its edge. What it has is its own internal pathway network and playgrounds, plus Prairie Winds Park: 16 hectares at 223 Castleridge Blvd NE, with tennis and basketball courts, playgrounds, a winter sledding hill, and a spray park, lazy river and wading pool in season. Eleven to sixteen minutes south.
What the map does not show: the two facilities the northeast leans on are both a drive away, and one of them is shut. Village Square Leisure Centre is closed for upgrades and repairs from August 31, 2026 until the end of 2027, which leaves the Genesis Centre in Saddle Ridge, a facility no publisher this audit could open describes.

Method: distances and drive times are estimated from the centre of the community to each destination using Calgary's road grid, and are rounded to honest ranges rather than presented as precise figures. The numbers here are lopsided by design: the airport and CrossIron Mills are unusually close for a Calgary community, and downtown and the mountains are both a longer haul than from communities nearer the city centre.
Every gym within reach
The far northeast is served by large facilities in neighbouring communities rather than a dense cluster of private clubs close by, and Village Square is closed for repairs until the end of 2027. Confirm hours before you count on any of them.
- The Genesis Centre is not on the City's pool or arena lists, and no publisher this audit could open describes what is inside it
- Village Square Leisure Centre has a wave pool, waterslides, ice rinks, a weight room and a gymnasium, and is closed for upgrades until the end of 2027
- Cornerstone and Saddletowne have commercial gyms six to twelve minutes away, the closest paid option
- The community's own pathways and playgrounds are the free option, at the door
| Facility | What it is | Drive |
|---|---|---|
| Skyview Ranch pathways & playgrounds open | Free option: the community's own internal pathway network and playgrounds. | 1–2 min |
| Cornerstone commercial gyms open | Private studios and chain gyms at the Cornerstone and Saddletowne retail nodes. This audit found no publisher page for any of them. | 6–9 min |
| GoodLife Fitness, Saddletowne open | A national chain club near the Saddletowne retail area. No publisher page for it was opened for this audit. | 8–12 min |
| Prairie Winds Park open | Not a gym, but a free option: 16 hectares of tennis and basketball courts, playgrounds, a sledding hill and walking ground. | 11–16 min |
| Genesis Centre open | The northeast's recreation centre in Saddle Ridge. It is not on the City's pool or arena lists and no publisher this audit could open describes what is inside it. | 10–15 min |
| Village Square Leisure Centre closed | City leisure centre with a wave pool, waterslides, ice rinks, weight room and gymnasium, closed for upgrades and repairs from August 31, 2026 until the end of 2027. | 13–19 min |
Watch this space. With Village Square shut until the end of 2027, the honest answer for the next two winters is a longer drive or the community's own pathways.
One board school inside the community, and thin publishing around it
Prairie Sky School is the Calgary Board of Education school inside Skyview Ranch. Its own page carries neither a grade range nor an address nor an opening year, and this audit found no publisher for a Catholic school in the community. Senior high sits outside the boundaries either way.
| School | Board | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Prairie Sky School | Calgary Board of Education | The board school inside the community. Its own page carries no grade range, address or opening year. |
| James Fowler High School | Calgary Board of Education | Grades 10 to 12 at 4004 4 Street N.W. in Highland Park. Nothing this audit could open names Skyview Ranch in its attendance area. |
| Bishop McNally High School | Calgary Catholic School District | Grades 10 to 12 at 5700 Falconridge Blvd NE, established 1994. Nothing this audit could open names Skyview Ranch inside its boundary, and the district's own site refuses automated clients. |
| Calgary Catholic School District | Calgary Catholic | Alberta funds Catholic education the same way it funds public education, so there is no tuition for a resident student at either board. |
Alberta funds Catholic education the same way it funds public education, so there is no tuition for a resident student at either board. Confirm enrolment, busing and the designation for a specific address with the board before you buy: the board publishes designations only through an address search, and nothing this audit could open names Skyview Ranch in the attendance area of James Fowler or the boundary of Bishop McNally.

Honesty note. This page uses only the general Calgary, seasonal, Alberta-wildlife and day-trip photography from the site's shared library: the Fish Creek and Midnapore-specific images used on the southeast pages are deliberately excluded, because this community is at the far northern edge of the city and those are not its surroundings. Nothing here is presented as a photograph of Skyview Ranch itself.
