Live in Becker Ridge

About 4,200 people on 902 acres at the bottom of the city's grid, between Florida's Turnpike, Darwin Boulevard and the C-23 canal on the Martin County line, where one resident in five lives on a block in FEMA's 1% flood zone beside the Turnpike, the nearest bus stop is 5.7 km away, and a new hospital opened across the Becker Road interchange in 2025.

Becker Ridge is the neighborhood on the City of Port St. Lucie's Neighborhood Services map that covers 902 acres at the southern end of the grid General Development Corporation began laying out after it bought land along the North Fork in 1958; the name is the one residents chose in the City's 2018 vote for the area it had called Ridgecrest, the school district's locator uses it for its study area here, and whether residents use it day to day was not checked. The 2020 census counted 4,152 residents inside the line, up about 30% from 3,202 on the same ground in 2010, and owners lived in 87% of the 1,409 occupied homes. Becker Road crosses the middle to the Turnpike's exit 138, the Turnpike is the eastern edge and the C-23 canal and the Martin County line the southern one, and no school or finished park is inside. Zillow's typical value for ZIP code 34953, which holds every resident, was $397,936 in August 2026, but that ZIP held 77,023 people in 2020 and is not a Becker Ridge price.

The bottom of the grid, boxed in by a toll road, a canal and the county line

The City of Port St. Lucie's Becker Ridge neighborhood: feature 26 on the NS_NEIGHBORHOODS layer behind the Neighborhood Services NICE program, planning area 4Sd, about 902 acres, clipped to the City's current limits as St. Lucie County's Municipal Boundaries layer draws them, which cut nothing off. Traced against the City's road classification layer, the Census Bureau's county line and OpenStreetMap's canals: Florida's Turnpike on the east, for about 2.5 km north from the county line past the Becker Road interchange; the C-23 canal and the Martin County line on the south; on the west SW Darwin Boulevard for about 1 km north of Becker Road, and below Becker Road a line that follows no classified road; and on the north-west a diagonal back to the Turnpike that follows no road on the City's classification layer. Becker Road, an urban minor arterial, runs about 2.2 km through the middle from Darwin Boulevard to the Turnpike, and 899 of the residents live south of it. The City's map puts Crane Landing to the west, Paar Estates to the north-west and Southbend Lakes across the Turnpike. No district school and no point on the City's parks layer is inside; the County's parks layer places Duck Court Park, a small City park under construction, on the southern edge. All of it is in City Council District 3, ZIP code 34953 and St. Lucie Public Schools' Red zone, and none of it is in a community development district or a community redevelopment area.

The line is the City's map, and residents chose the name. Becker Ridge is one of the 36 neighborhoods Port St. Lucie draws for its Neighborhood Services program: about 902 acres at the southern end of the grid General Development Corporation began after buying about 40,000 acres along the North Fork in 1958, three years before the city was incorporated. Florida's Turnpike is the eastern edge, the C-23 canal and the Martin County line the southern one, and Darwin Boulevard part of the western. The City called it Ridgecrest until 17 February 2018, when it announced the names residents had picked in 1,547 votes; whether residents use the new one day to day was not checked. The 2020 census counted 4,152 residents inside the line, up about 30% from 3,202 on the same ground in 2010.

It is a grid of owner-occupied houses with almost nothing public inside it. Owners lived in 87% of the 1,409 occupied homes in 2020. Becker Road runs through the middle to the Turnpike's exit 138, and 899 residents live south of it, between the road and the canal. There is no school inside the line and no finished park: the nearest point on the City's parks layer is the Treasure Coast Model Railroad, 1.3 km away on Becker Road. Duck Court Park, under an acre at the southern edge, was still closed for construction on 1 October 2026.

One resident in five lives on a block in FEMA's 1% annual chance flood zone. On the effective map of 2020 it is a strip along the eastern side, beside the Turnpike, mapped as zone AH with a base flood elevation of 18 feet; it covers 14.3% of the area and the blocks of 854 residents. The reference point itself is in zone X. The County's evacuation map puts no one here in a hurricane zone or in the planning area around the St. Lucie nuclear plant. Irma left 10.36 inches at a Port St. Lucie gauge in 2017; the swale and driveway culvert in front of a house are the owner's to keep clear. A homeowners policy does not cover flood, and the City's rating takes 25% off a flood policy inside the mapped zone.

No price index follows the City's line. Every resident is in ZIP code 34953, where Zillow's typical value was $397,936 in August 2026, down 0.4% on the year, but the ZIP held 77,023 people. Every address pays the same seventeen levies, 22.3097 mills for 2025, and no community development district reaches here. A homesteaded buyer at the ZIP's figure owes about $7,920 a year on the base exemption amounts, a landlord about $8,878. The City's solid waste and stormwater assessments add about $656, which no exemption reduces. Save Our Homes caps a homestead's assessed value at 3% a year and resets on a sale, so the seller's bill understates yours. Which lots here are still on a well and septic tank was not read; one that is costs $18,821 to connect to City water and sewer. The arithmetic is on the Port St. Lucie page.

This is a place to drive, and the Turnpike is the reason to be here. No bus stops inside the line: the nearest, on ART's fare-free route 5 at Port St. Lucie Boulevard and Tulip Boulevard, is 5.7 km from the center and runs every 60 minutes. ART On Demand's Zone 1, a door-to-door service, covers 4,019 of the residents. Across the interchange are the nearest Publix and Florida Coast Medical Center, which opened on 9 September 2025 with 54 beds and a 24-hour emergency room. The center of Stuart, across the county line, is about 9.5 km east.

Worth knowing before you commit
Find the house on the flood map first
A fifth of the residents live on blocks in a mapped ponding zone

  • Run the exact address on FEMA's map: the zone AH strip runs along the Turnpike side, and price a separate flood policy
  • Ask the seller about standing water in past storms and look at the swale and culvert out front
  • Estimate the tax at your purchase price: the seller's Save Our Homes cap ends with the sale
  • Ask the City's utility whether the lot is on City water and sewer or a well and septic tank

How Becker Ridge got here

  • 1958General Development Corporation buys about 40,000 acres along the North Fork of the St. Lucie River and begins the grid of lots and canals this neighborhood is the southern end of.
  • 1961Port St. Lucie becomes a city on 27 April, by an act of the Florida Legislature.
  • 1992The City establishes Whispering Pines Park on SW Darwin Boulevard, about 4 km north, now home to the Minsky Gym and 24 lit pickleball courts.
  • 2010The census counts about 3,202 residents and 1,199 homes on the ground of today's neighborhood.
  • 2017Hurricane Irma's rain, from 9 to 12 September, measures 10.36 inches at a Port St. Lucie gauge and 21.66 inches near Fort Pierce, the most anywhere in the state.
  • 2018On 17 February the City announces the neighborhood names residents chose in 1,547 votes; the area it had called Ridgecrest becomes Becker Ridge.
  • 2020FEMA's map panel for the area takes effect on 19 February. The census counts 4,152 residents and 1,458 homes inside the line; owners live in 1,222 of the 1,409 occupied homes.
  • 2025Florida Coast Medical Center opens on 9 September at 310 SE Veranda Falls Way, across the Turnpike off Becker Road: 54 beds and 24-hour emergency care.
  • 2026Duck Court Park, on SW Rad Court at the southern edge, is closed for construction. The state's 2026 grade for Treasure Coast High School is I, incomplete, after B for 2025 and 2024.

02: Duck Court Park and Jessica Clinton Park

A pocket park under construction inside, and the real one across the Turnpike

Inside the line, Duck Court Park is being built on SW Rad Court, just west of the Becker Road interchange, with a paved path, a pergola, a fountain and a Little Free Library planned and no opening date. Across the Turnpike, Jessica Clinton Park has 20 acres with lit ball fields, tennis and pickleball courts, an inclusive playground and a lit half-mile trail. The photographs here are of parks elsewhere in the city, not either one.

What the map does not show: the way to Jessica Clinton Park is Becker Road through the Turnpike interchange. Walk it before you count on it.

05: Schools

One assigned high school, graded incomplete for 2026, and choice below it

Every address is in St. Lucie Public Schools. High schools are assigned by address, and the district's locator gives Treasure Coast High for the whole neighborhood: graded B for 2025, its state grade for 2026 is I, incomplete. Kindergarten to grade 8 is choice within the Red zone; Windmill Point Elementary, graded B, is the nearest of nine schools listed for ZIP 34953, not a zoned school, and the nearest middle school, Southport, is on another zone's list.
