Trinity Park and West Durham is our name for the old city north of the Durham Freeway and south of Interstate 85, west of Duke Street, 13,157 residents and 6,034 housing units in 2020, the smallest of the five because it is the dense ground between two freeways. Every guide here is one neighborhood of the City's Neighborhoods layer, a reference map the City keeps for its own work orders with no published date, author or definition of a neighborhood, clipped to the current City limits, so its line is the City's working label rather than an adopted boundary or an association's territory. Duke's East Campus, 1,872 residents in 2020, almost all on residence-hall blocks, is here and in no guide, and 9,784 of the area's 13,157 residents live in one of its four guides, a larger share than in any other area. Trinity Park, 3,043 residents on 339 acres between East Campus and Duke Street, holds 2,332 in the Trinity National Register district and its 2004 increase, and 787 of its residents live east of Duke Street, counted here because most of the neighborhood is west of it. Old West Durham, 3,163 on 412 acres around Ninth Street, has 1,602 in the West Durham National Register district, 1,948 in the Ninth Street Compact Neighborhood planning tier and 948 under the Old West Neighborhood Protection Overlay of 2018. Walltown, 1,924 on 198 acres north of East Campus, has 113 residents on blocks in the floodway of South Ellerbe Creek. Watts-Hillandale, the layer's Watts Hospital-Hillandale, is 2,441 residents on 781 acres, 660 of them in the City's Watts-Hillandale local historic district, which also reaches 126 of Old West Durham's residents and 65 of Walltown's. 4 guides are listed below.
