South Durham is our name for the rest of the city south of the Durham Freeway and west of NC 55, below Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway or west of US 15-501, 80,376 residents and 38,694 housing units in 2020, the most of the five, with 102 of them in Orange County. Every guide here is one neighborhood of the City's Neighborhoods layer, a reference map the City keeps for its own work orders with no published date, author or definition of a neighborhood, clipped to the current City limits, so its line is the City's working label rather than an adopted boundary or an association's territory. Hope Valley is the layer's Hope Valley alone, 3,050 residents on 1,376 acres off Hope Valley Road; Hope Valley Farms, Hope Valley Forest and the other neighborhoods that borrow the name are separate. 397 of its residents are in the Hope Valley National Register district of 2009, and 401 live on blocks in the special flood hazard area along Third Fork Creek, 204 of them in the floodway. Woodcroft, 2,929 residents on 516 acres along Woodcroft Parkway, is about 800 meters from the Streets at Southpoint, and no resident there lives on a block in the special flood hazard area. Parkwood, 2,486 residents on 670 acres south of NC 54, is 1.8 kilometers from Research Triangle Park, which is not in the city and which the city may not annex. With three guides for 80,376 residents, this area grows next: Penrith, the largest residential neighborhood on the City's map with 3,625 residents, comes first. 3 guides are listed below.
